Positive news for Ecoboom owners, Ford UK at last pulled their finger and decided to stand behind their Ecoboost engine.

Interesting that they are no longer requiring proof that the correct "magic ecoelixir of ecolife" (might have got the name wrong) oil was used for goodwill.

"Wrong/cheap oil" has been featured as an explanation for failures in discussions on here quite a lot. Seems "right oil" might not have been so important after all.

This doesn't surprise me at all, but I am quite surprised that they would admit it, since the chances of them being called out on that getout seem rather low, no one else having access to the data, AFAIK..

I suppose, now its this official, I'll have to raise this with my Taiwanese friends in proud possession of one of these engines in an automatic Kuga.

They will have got this via personal contacts with a senior exec in Ford Taiwan, an ex-student of mine.

I'm going to be unpopular.

Are these ecoboost engines built in the far east , perhaps China to be fitted in cars all over that area ?

I wonder if there will be a similar reaction from Stellantis and Honda ?

local mechanics are already removing sumps and cleaning out oil pump filters during routine servicing on Peugeot Pure Tech engines .

Honda will replace failed three cylinder engines with fibre belts according to earlier posts .

Overall a positive step but too late for some owners who will have sc***ped their car when the engine blew. It must be ten or eleven years since this engine was launched.

My neighbour has recently bought a '22 Puma with some flavour of the Ecoboost and donated his '62 MK3 Focus with its 1.6 Yamaha engine to his daughter who lives at home. I often wonder whose car will meet the grim reaper first.

For now I'm keeping my faithful old MK2 with its 1.6 Yamaha engine.

I can't understand why Ford went to the effort of changing the wet belt to a chain recently but didn't also the the oil pump. That's still a wet belt. Seems doing half a job to me.

Another engine creeping into the tales of woe , is the Ford / Psa 1.5 diesel. The timing chain that connects the 2 camshafts is snapping with regularity. There’s a modification to a wider chain and other parts needed . This usually destroys the valve train . Post office have hundreds of these on the road .

No . Peugeots, Ford Fiesta , focus , connect vans . Any euro vehicle with a 1.5 Diesel engine is likely to have this engine.

I got rid of my puma last year, mine had a new engine at less than three years old ( just) it didn’t fail spectacularly just had a strange noise from the top end, the dealer said ford couldn’t tell them when the parts were available so they just fitted a brand new engine but they wouldn’t warranty it past the original warranty, shame really as I would have had another if they did, bought a Toyota instead..

Interesting - as far as I know all Puma's were fitted with the newer cam chain version of the Ecoboost. I wonder if this was a chain rattle?

No, the 1.0 litres versions come out of Germany and Romania, the 1.6 out of Bridgend in Wales.
